Content Policy

Last updated 9 October 2026

Ink Atlas is a home for stories, including difficult ones. Fiction can explore dark themes. This policy sets out where the lines are, so authors know what they can publish and readers know what to expect.

Never allowed

We remove this content immediately, close the account, and report it to the authorities where required:

  • Any sexual content involving a person under 18, including fictional characters presented as minors, and anything that sexualises children.
  • Content that provides instructions for, or encourages, harming children.
  • Credible threats, incitement to violence, or content that promotes terrorism.
  • Explicit sexual content: graphic depictions of sex acts are not allowed at any rating. Romance can be sensual or implied, but not pornographic. Our automated check sends such books to a moderator rather than deciding on its own.
  • Non-consensual intimate content about real people.
  • Hate speech: content that attacks people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or similar characteristics. Stories may depict bigotry in context; they may not promote it.
  • Harassment, doxxing, or content that targets a real private person.
  • Spam, scams, malware and impersonation.
  • Work you do not have the right to publish. See the Copyright & Takedown policy.

Maturity ratings

Every book carries a rating that the author must choose honestly. If a book is under-rated we may change the rating or suspend the book.

  • General — suitable for all readers aged 13 and over. Mild peril and conflict; no explicit content.
  • Teen — stronger themes, violence or language that is not graphic or explicit.
  • Mature (18+) — graphic violence or intense adult themes (still no explicit sexual content). Shown only to adults who have opted in, and hidden from everyone else. Authors under 18 cannot publish Mature books.

Automated checks

Before a book goes live, and when you edit a published book, an automated check reads the text. It can raise a book's maturity rating to match its content (never lower it), refuse to publish content that clearly breaks these rules, or hold a book for a human moderator to review when it is unsure. Automated checks make mistakes; a moderator reviews anything held, and you can appeal.

Reporting

Use the Report button on any book or chapter. Choose a reason and, if you like, add a short note. Reports are confidential. A moderator reviews each report and may dismiss it, or suspend the book, in which case the author is told why. You can report a book once.

Appeals and second chances

If your book was suspended you can edit it, fix what was flagged, and press "Resubmit for review" on the book's page. The automated check runs again, and a moderator then decides whether to release it. You can resubmit twice a week. If you think we got it wrong and your book needs no changes, write to hello.codaria@gmail.com with the book title and why.
